Microsoft Gives IT Admins Control Over Windows Single Sign-On Prompts
Microsoft has introduced a new administrative control for Windows single sign-on (SSO) prompts, giving IT departments greater flexibility over how users authenticate to Microsoft services, available from the July 2026 monthly security update (2026—KB5101650) for Windows 11, version 24H2 and 25H2.
The new policy allows administrators to determine when SSO prompts appear, helping organizations tailor the sign-in experience to their security, compliance and operational requirements. The capability is designed to reduce unnecessary prompts while giving IT teams more control over authentication behavior across managed Windows devices.
The policy can be deployed through GPO, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Configuration Manager or any management tool supporting registry policy deployment.
Microsoft said the feature supports enterprise environments where authentication policies vary based on user roles, device management strategies or regulatory obligations. Administrators can configure the setting through existing Windows management tools as part of broader identity and access management policies.
