Microsoft Enhances Copilot in Excel for Financial Analysis and Modeling
Microsoft has introduced new Microsoft 365 Copilot capabilities for Excel aimed at supporting financial professionals with data analysis, modeling and decision-making.
Some of the enhancements feature a new skills update allowing teams to define how Copilot applies formatting and structures based on how users already prefer, with personalization and workbook rule options. Expanded financial data connectors bring public and private market data into Copilot in Excel with connectors like CB Insights, Daloopa, PitchBook and more. Work IQ allows simplified prompts to unlock real scenarios for finance teams. Plan with Copilot outlines which ranges, worksheets, formulas and assumptions are intended for updating along with clarifying questions.
The updates are designed to help users perform complex financial tasks more efficiently by using natural language prompts to analyze datasets, identify trends and generate insights within Excel. The enhancements also assist with building formulas, creating reports and automating repetitive spreadsheet work. The updates aim to ensure that Copilot works more like a trusted analyst proposing a path forward and making every change transparent and reviewable.
Microsoft said the new features are intended to address the needs of finance teams working with increasingly large and complex datasets. By embedding AI directly into Excel, the company aims to reduce manual effort while helping users improve the speed and accuracy of financial analysis.
