Microsoft Adds User-Initiated Provisioning to Windows 365 Reserve
Microsoft has introduced user-initiated provisioning for Windows 365 Reserve, now available in public preview, aimed at giving organizations more flexibility in deploying cloud PCs. The feature allows end users to trigger provisioning of reserved cloud PCs when needed, rather than relying solely on administrator-driven deployment. This approach is intended to improve responsiveness and reduce delays in accessing virtual desktops. This setting allows users to sign in to the Windows App from any device, provision their own Windows 365 Reserve Cloud PCs and get back to work without having to wait for manual IT provisioning.
Windows 365 Reserve is designed to provide pre-configured cloud PCs that can be quickly assigned to users. By enabling user-initiated provisioning, Microsoft aims to streamline onboarding and support scenarios such as temporary staff, contractors or rapid scaling of workforce capacity. By default, with user-initiated provisioning disabled, Windows 365 Reserve relies on IT to provision Cloud PCs on demand from Intune, but when enabled, specific user groups can initiate provisioning themselves directly from the Windows App.
The feature integrates with existing Windows 365 management tools, allowing organizations to maintain control over policies and configurations while expanding provisioning options. As adoption of cloud PCs grows, organizations are seeking more flexible deployment models.
