Office XP Suites Unveiled

Microsoft Corp. today laid out the suites it will offer for its next generation of Office personal productivity software.

Microsoft Office XP will come in Office XP Standard, Office XP Professional, Office XP Professional Special Edition and Office XP Developer when it becomes available May 31.

Office XP Standard includes Word 2002, Excel 2002, Outlook 2002 and PowerPoint 2002 for an estimated retail price of $479 for new licenses and $239 for upgrades.

Office XP Professional adds Access 2002 and costs $579 new and $329 upgraded.

The Office XP Professional Special Edition is an upgrade only version of the Professional suite that also includes FrontPage 2002, SharePoint Team Services, Publisher 2002 and a new Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer for an estimated price of $479. That version is not available in all countries.

The developer suite adds FrontPage, SharePoint Team Services and other tools and resources to the Office XP Professional suite. Developer upgrades cost an estimated $549; new licenses, $799.

Microsoft has created a 30-day free trial program for individual customers to try Office XP for Microsoft's standard CD shipping and handling fee of $9.95.

Also Monday, Microsoft issued Service Release 1 for Office 2001 for Mac. -
