Hummingbird Delivers EIP

Hummingbird Communications Ltd. shipped its Hummingbird Enterprise Information Portal (EIP), culminating several months of realignment and focus shift within the company. In October, Hummingbird had promised its customers an EIP in beta by December and in release by the beginning of 2000.
The Hummingbird EIP provides a single point of access to all business-critical information and resources, including structured and unstructured data. The EIP connects users to content in context, enabling them to process, filter, and act upon information from enterprise sources.
The Hummingbird EIP offers a range of features. Unified search is a back-end function which can execute searches that access structured and unstructured data sources both internally and externally and return a unified result. The EIP is based on a plug-in architecture using a technology called e-Clip. e-Clip enables the portal to grow with the organization through open, published APIs that allow the EIP to integrate other applications and work with custom systems or data sources in the enterprise.
The EIP uses XML as the base data and metadata exchange mechanism between the components, and supports multiple levels of user personalization. Application integration services simplify deployment and interactions for the end user. The EIP interfaces to all other Hummingbird products as well as to other applications using its e-Clip architecture.
