The (Microsoft) Mountain Comes to Mohammed

In an effort to accommodate those Silicon Valley denizens who just can't stand the rain, Microsoft Corp. announced the opening of the Microsoft Silicon Valley Developer Center in Palo Alto. The facility will provide tools and information about Microsoft technologies and business directions to developers, start-up companies and venture capital firms.

The center's activities will include technical sessions, hands-on development assistance, a speaker series and special interest group meetings. The Center's lab contains hardware supplied by Compaq Computer Corp., NVidia Corp. (Santa Clara, Calif., www.nvidia.com), Diamond Multimedia Systems Inc. (San Jose, Calif., www.diamondmm.com) and Creative Labs Inc. (Milpitas, Calif., www.creativelabs.com).

The center will move to its new home at the Microsoft Silicon Valley campus in Mountain View, Calif., when its construction is completed in late 1999. --Michele Rosen, Staff Reporter/New York Correspondent
