Microsoft 365 Backup and Backup Storage Now Available
The Microsoft 365 Backup Storage platform, which includes Microsoft 365 Backup and Microsoft 365 Backup Storage, is now generally available.
First unveiled in July 2023, the new platform aims to provide IT with additional backup and security options, while enhancing organizational data privacy.
Microsoft 365 Backup offers comprehensive backup and recovery services for data associated with OneDrive, SharePoint and Exchange. The service allows organizations to search and filter content for backups using metadata. They can choose to back up some or all files, with the flexibility to restore files, sites, and mailbox items.
Microsoft 365 Backup is available through the Microsoft 365 admin center as a standalone, pay-as-you-go solution with no additional license requirements. To learn how to set up Microsoft 365 Backup, click here.
Providing third-party vendor support, Microsoft 365 Backup Storage supports large-scale data backup and recovery, enabling independent software vendors (ISVs) to integrate the platform into their applications. Microsoft said this allows customers to benefit from Microsoft 365 Backup's high-speed recovery and additional functionalities provided by third-party solutions.
Several partners, including AvePoint, Cohesity, Commvault, Rubrik, Veeam, and Veritas, have expressed support for the Microsoft 365 Backup Storage platform, which Microsoft said provides additional functionality to users.
"While you can experience the advantages of the Microsoft 365 Backup Storage platform directly through the Microsoft 365 Backup offering, there are also benefits to using a partner-developed solution," wrote Microsoft's Zach Rosenfield. "Our partners offer robust and integrated solutions that combine Microsoft 365 with other data sources, all within one interface. Using Microsoft 365 Backup Storage, these partner applications ensure fast backup and restore operations."
