Microsoft Edge Workspaces Available as Limited Preview

Microsoft has broadened access to the Microsoft Edge Workspaces preview, which lets people collaborate in a group space within the browser.

Workspaces is now available as a "limited public preview" release, according to this Wednesday Microsoft announcement. The preview is just for Microsoft Edge browser users, and it can be accessed via this link. Its use requires having "Microsoft Edge version 111.0.1661.51 (or higher)" and being signed into a Microsoft account.

Per Microsoft's description, people could use Workspaces in the Edge browser to collaborate on things like trip planning. It can save a "shared view of your group's web pages and documents within a unique browser window, with real-time updates." Any changes that are made by the Workspaces participants appear in "real time."

Using Workspaces isn't the same thing as sharing a Web browser. This feature has some privacy and security controls in that regard. Here's how Microsoft described that aspect:

It is important to note that this feature is not browser screensharing, nor does it share browser data among people who are sharing an Edge Workspace.

For instance, Workspaces participants won't have access to "confidential account data like logins, cookies, and passwords," the announcement added.

Microsoft had first introduced Workspaces for the Edge browser as part of its Microsoft Ignite event last year. It was described back then as letting users share browser tabs with collaborators. It was previously available as a so-called "enterprise public preview," which seems to be new Microsoft nomenclature.
