Surface Management Portal Now Available in Microsoft Endpoint Manager
Microsoft added a new Surface Management Portal within the Microsoft Endpoint Manager product, according to a Thursday announcement.
The new portal provides IT information on all supported Microsoft Surface devices, ranging from Surface two-in-one devices, laptops and even Microsoft's wall-mounted Surface Hub conferencing devices. The Surface Management Portal is just available to Microsoft Endpoint Manager subscribers.
Moreover, Surface devices need to be enrolled via Microsoft Intune, Microsoft's mobile (or "modern") management solution, for the new portal to work.
"Surface Management Portal is available to customers who use Microsoft Endpoint Manager and have enrolled Surface devices through Intune," the announcement clarified. Microsoft added the portal "to create a premium post-sale experience for our customers," it added.
Intune is included with Microsoft Endpoint Manager subscriptions.
The Surface Management Portal delivers information via a dashboard screen, which shows overall Surface stats. It'll show the following information:
- Actions required
- Inactive Surface devices
- Device policy compliance status
- Low storage limits on devices
- Surface warrantees that are due to expire.
The announcement stated that "managing warranty and support requests are as simple as a click of a button."
IT pros can create hardware-support trouble tickets for Surface devices right within the Surface Management Portal, according to a Microsoft Mechanics video featuring Microsoft 365 Director Jeremy Chapman.
The portal also includes a new feed that's designed for IT pros.
"With the news feature in Surface Management Portal, customers can now stay up to date with the latest updates from the Surface engineering team, curated just for the IT audience in the enterprise space," the announcement stated.
Microsoft launched an updated Surface product line on Oct. 5. It also announced a Surface spare parts program for commercial customers that was scheduled to launch on Oct. 15, although not all spare parts are offered under the program.
