SharePoint, Azure, Office 365, Teams Suffer Outage Thursday Afternoon

On Thursday afternoon a number of U.S.-based (and some Europe-based) users of Microsoft SharePoint, Azure, Office 365 and other cloud services reported an outage, with the downtime lasting at least an hour. Users started reporting the systems coming back online around 2:10 PST.

The services went down approximately around 1 p.m. PST and soon after going down showed the following error:

Shortly after, Microsoft's Office 365 support account posted the following Tweet:

Microsoft's Azure Twitter account and outage page also reported outages. Here is a screenshot of the Azure outage page as of 1:45 PST:

As of this article posting, no official updated public post about a resolution had been made by Microsoft, although Microsoft MVP and database expert Joey D'Antoni (@jdanton) posted the following on Twitter at 2 p.m., with the information coming from a status update in the Azure Portal:

Some users took to Twitter to express their frustration with the lack of communication regarding the cause of the outage(s), the expansiveness of the services affected and when the system would be back up:

An outage postmortem is expected. If this outage affected you, consult your service-level agreement for time compensation.
