Feebie Friday 10/21: Apps On the Go, Using HTML5 Correctly

Welcome to another edition of Freebie Friday, the Redmondmag.com feature highlighting some of the best products for PCs (from software to ebooks) that won't cost you a cent. After checking out this week's batch, send us your suggestions for products that should be included to future editions at [email protected].

  • PortableApps - Carry and run your most-needed applications on whatever computer you're at. Users can store their favorites on a USB drive, cloud storage service or any other portable storage device. Once plugged in or accessed, applications can be launched straight from the storage device.

  • Launchy - This is more of a niche program, targeted at those who hate clicking on icons. This skin for Windows and Mac replaces your start bar with a simple search bar. Just type what you want instead of searching and clicking.

  • What Is HTML5? - While you obviously know what HTML5 is, this ebook shows you how to properly design for it. The summary ascertains that most using the new format are still using HTML4 practices. This free ebook will show you what's different and point out what you're probably doing wrong.

  • Universal Extractor - This freebie does only one thing -- but it does it well. Universal Extractor allows you to extract any file type out there without the need of multiple programs.
