Microsoft Releases Toolkit V2 for SSCM 2007

Microsoft on Friday released an updated toolkit for System Center Configuration Manager 2007.

"Toolkit V2," as it's called, is a minor update to Microsoft's 2007 release, but it includes some customer-requested features. Microsoft restored four tools that originally were in the toolkit for Systems Management Server 2003. Those tools, now back by popular demand, are the "Delete Group Class, MP Troubleshooter, Preload Package and Send Schedule Tools," according to a Microsoft blog.

The Delete Group Class tool removes definitions of inventory groups. With Toolkit V2, Microsoft now lets users remove "entries in the GroupMap and AttributeMap tables."

The Management Point Troubleshooter tool checks the installation of management points on a computer. Now it will also "detect WebDAV rules" and automatically fix detected problems. WebDAV, or "Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning," helps with the management of HTML files.

The newly added Preload Package Tool helps users manually install compressed packaged source files on sites managed by Configuration Manager 2007. With Toolkit V2, Microsoft has added to the list of supported files, including the "software distribution package, virtual application package, boot image, operating system image, operating system install package and driver package."

Finally, Microsoft updated the Send Schedule tool in the new toolkit. The Send Schedule tool "can now trigger DCM [desired configuration management] Baseline evaluation" in a client, according to Microsoft's blog.

These tools, and the others in Toolkit V2, can be added to System Center Configuration Manager 2007 via a single installer package, available at the Microsoft Download Center here. The new toolkit also has an "updated Security Configuration Wizard Template" specifically designed for use with Configuration Manager 2007 Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2008 R2.
