Microsoft Releases Network Security Hotfix Checker

New tool simplifies identification of systems' applied hotfixes and patches.

Microsoft's security team has released a new tool to help system administrators identify Windows NT and 2000 systems on their networks that are missing necessary security-related hotfixes. The tool also checks hotfixes for IIS, Internet Explorer and SQL Server. When it's run from the command line, the hotfix checker can test all of the systems in a particular domain or IP range. The list of hotfixes that it checks for is downloaded in an XML file from Microsoft, so that it's always up to date. A must-have if you're battling Code Red.
