Microsoft Acquires BI Software Maker ProClarity

Microsoft said Monday it will acquire a small Boise, Idaho firm that specializes in business intelligence tools built on top of Microsoft’s business intelligence platform.

ProClarity Corp. develops advanced analysis and visualization products that work with the Redmond company’s business intelligence offerings, which include SQL Server 2005, Office Business Scorecard Manager 2005, Office Excel and Office SharePoint Portal Server.

For instance, ProClarity Analytics Server augments Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services and works in association with Microsoft Office Business Scorecard Manager, Microsoft Office Excel and Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server, according a Microsoft statement.

In explaining the acquisition, Microsoft said that the upcoming release of Office System 2007 significantly increases and broadens Microsoft’s investment in business intelligence. ProClarity “deepens that investment, providing functionality that includes additional advanced analysis and visualization technologies as well as business-logic-driven ‘guided’ analysis,” the statement said.
