Microsoft Adds Pre-Upgrade Validation Checks for Azure Database for PostgreSQL
Microsoft has introduced pre-upgrade validation checks for Azure Database for PostgreSQL, giving organizations a way to assess potential issues before performing version upgrades, now in public preview. With Pre-Upgrade Validation Checks, teams can run upgrade checks independently, review actionable results, fix issues and re-run validation until your server is ready, which upgrades troubleshooting from the upgrade window to a proactive pre-flight step.
The feature analyzes database environments and identifies compatibility concerns, configuration issues and other conditions that could affect upgrade success. The goal is to help administrators address problems in advance and reduce the likelihood of disruptions during upgrade processes. The update is aimed at reducing failed upgrade attempts, improving planning and giving teams more confidence before entering a production change window.
Microsoft said the validation checks are designed to provide greater visibility into upgrade readiness and support more predictable database maintenance operations. The capability is intended to simplify planning for PostgreSQL version transitions while improving operational reliability.
