Microsoft Unveils Agentic AI Suite for Retail
Microsoft has introduced a broad set of agentic AI solutions aimed at bringing intelligent automation to every corner of the retail enterprise, from merchandising and marketing to store operations and fulfillment.
The new offerings are designed to help retailers streamline fragmented workflows, improve customer engagement and operate more efficiently in an increasingly competitive marketplace. By embedding context-aware AI agents across retail systems, Microsoft said it is accelerating the shift toward what it describes as a unified, intelligence-driven operating model.
"The retailers that thrive will be the ones that unify their business with intelligence that reaches every corner of the value chain," Kathleen Mitford, corporate vice president of global industry at Microsoft, said in a statement. "With Microsoft's agentic AI, retailers can automate what slows them down and amplify what sets them apart."
Copilot Checkout Brings "Frictionless" Commerce
Central to the announcement is Copilot Checkout, now available in the U.S. on Copilot.com. This feature enables shoppers to complete purchases directly within the Copilot app, eliminating the need to redirect to external websites. Merchants remain the merchant of record.
Copilot Checkout integrates with payment and commerce platforms including PayPal, Shopify and Stripe. Participating brands include Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Ashley Furniture and sellers from Etsy.
There is definitely a trend toward AI-driven ecommerce. According to recent data from Adobe, AI-powered ecommerce traffic for the 2025 holiday season rose 693% compared to the prior year.
Brand Agents and Personalized Shopping Experiences
Microsoft also introduced two new tools to power conversational commerce across a retailer's own digital properties.
Brand Agents, available for merchants on Shopify, are trained on a retailer's product catalog and designed to answer detailed product questions in a brand-aligned voice with minimal setup.
In addition, a personalized shopping agent template in Copilot Studio provides retailers with a customizable framework for AI-powered product discovery, recommendations and features such as outfit building across Web, mobile and in-store experiences.
Catalog Enrichment and Smarter Discovery
In public preview, Microsoft is also launching a catalog enrichment agent template in Copilot Studio. The tool extracts product attributes from images, incorporates social insights and automates catalog tasks such as onboarding, categorization and error resolution.
AI Support for Store Operations
Beyond digital commerce, Microsoft is targeting in-store efficiency with a store operations agent template, also now in public preview. The solution provides store leaders and associates with natural-language access to inventory data, policies and operational insights while orchestrating workflows and recommending next-best actions.
By analyzing internal sales signals alongside external factors such as weather and local events, the system can generate contextual staffing and performance recommendations, the company said.
A Broader Push Into Agentic AI
Microsoft said the new retail-focused capabilities reflect a broader strategy to embed agentic AI across enterprise operations, helping businesses anticipate change, automate critical workflows and deliver more personalized customer experiences.
Retailers continue to grapple with high turnover and a shortage of skilled customer-facing staff. Many employees lack access to digital tools that could help them serve customers better, and all too often they leave the company just as they are acquiring the skills needed to best serve customers.
Microsoft's new agentic AI solution is designed to change that by providing employees with the intuitive tools and helpful information they need to do their job more efficiently.
