Microsoft Build 2026, the company's annual developer-focused conference held last week in San Francisco, offered a glimpse into Redmond's long-term strategy for AI, scientific discovery, Windows and even quantum computing.

1. Microsoft Scout Signals the Next Phase of Agentic AI
Microsoft used Build to push its vision of agentic AI beyond chatbots and copilots. At the center of that effort was Scout, a new framework designed to help AI agents reason, plan and act more autonomously.
"We built this to learn how always-on agents show up in real work, and we are seeing it take on coordination, surface risks earlier, and keep work moving without constant prompting," Omar Shahine, Microsoft Scout corporate vice president, said.
