Microsoft 365 and Azure Suffer Widespread Outages
Update 07/30: Microsoft said it has fully restored worldwide services for Microsoft 365 and Azure Tuesday afternoon.
Many of Microsoft's online and cloud services were unavailable on Tuesday morning due to what appears to be a widespread outage, which began a little before 5 a.m. PST.
According to Microsoft's own Service Health Status page, as of 10 a.m. PST, the company has identified "service degradations" in Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure services. The company noted that issues are affecting the Microsoft 365 admin center, Intune, Entra, Power Platform and Power BI. It also clarified that some services, including SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, Exchange Online and OneDrive for Business, have not been affected by the outage.
As for Azure, Microsoft has said that it has found an issue with user access, which has led to the service degradation. "An unexpected usage spike resulted in Azure Front Door (AFD) components performing below acceptable thresholds, leading to intermittent errors, timeout, and latency spikes," read the status page. "We have implemented network configuration changes and have performed failovers to provide alternate network paths for relief."
Microsoft said that it has seen an improvement in services with the implemented changes. However, it says that it's still seeing some regional errors in some of its Azure services and will share additional information as the company's investigation continues.
