IT Worker Pay To Rise 3 Percent Next Year

U.S. IT worker salaries likely will trend upward next year, according to recent analysis by Computer Economics.

The Irvine, Calif.-based research firm expects to see an average 3 percent increase in IT wages occurring in 2015. The expected pay hike was described as "modest" in terms of historical trends, according to a summary of the company's "IT Salary Report 2015," which was released this month. The 3 percent increase will be negligibly above the expected rate of inflation.

The pressure on IT wages to rise in 2015 is considered "low," according to the report, based on its survey results. It would take an improved economy to increase that pressure.

IT workers seem to be holding fast to their current jobs. For instance, the turnover rate among the surveyed companies has averaged about 4 percent over the last few years, according to Computer Economics.

Still, about half (52 percent) of the organizations in North America surveyed by Computer Economics indicated that they planned to increase their headcounts next year. That number was unchanged from last year, however, so there's no spike in expectations.

On the other hand, the prospect for overall IT job cuts is considered to be low in 2015, based on the report's survey information. Just 10 percent of the organizations surveyed expected to cut IT personnel next year.

The "IT Salary Report 2015" by Computer Economics uses data based on surveys of about 100 IT organizations. The report profiles 69 IT jobs in 400-plus U.S. metropolitan areas. It incorporates U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data to estimate compensation trends for particular U.S. regions.
