Microsoft Fixes, Rereleases SP1 for SharePoint 2013

Microsoft has quietly rereleased Service Pack 1 for SharePoint Server 2013.

The news comes from Microsoft MVP Todd Klindt, in a blog post today. However, Microsoft's download page for SP1 indicates that the service pack was published on April 17, or about five days ago. There appears to be no official notice from Microsoft about its new release of SP1. Update: Microsoft issued this blog post, which notes there are no updates for the slipstreamed ISOs distributed via MSDN, the Volume Licensing Service Center and the Microsoft Partner Network.

Microsoft had initially released SP1 for SharePoint Server 2013 back in late February. However, by early April, SP1 had been withdrawn. Some users had experienced problems with getting cumulative updates after applying SP1, according to Microsoft's explanation at the time.

The old Knowledge Base article KB 2817429, which had described the problem with SharePoint Server 2013 SP1, now points to a new article, KB 2880552, which has fresh links to the SP1 download page.

The new April 17 download version of SP1 contains previously unreleased fixes, as well as a specific fix for a missing search box issue, although the KB article oddly mentions nothing about resolving the cumulative update problem.

SP1 for SharePoint Server 2013 notably adds compatibility with Windows Server 2012 R2. However, Microsoft's new KB article notes that getting that compatibility requires "a new installation of the full product from media."

SP1 also adds support for connecting to OneDrive for Business. It adds a new setting that allows connections to be set to Yammer instead of the SharePoint social newsfeed. It improves Internet Explorer 11 compatibility. Developers get the benefit of support for OData JavaScript Object Notation Light with SP1.
