2 New Applications Certified for W2K Datacenter Server

Two more vendors endured Veritest's battery of tests to earn the Windows 2000 Datacenter Server application certification in recent weeks.

Joining the elite list of applications bearing the Certified for Windows 2000 Datacenter Server logo are J.D. Edwards' OneWorld Xe and FalconStor's IPStor 2.0.

The companies join 10 other vendors, including Microsoft, that have gotten their software certified to run on Microsoft's highest-end operating system. The certification requires that an application run on a 32-processor system, a four-node failover cluster and run continuously under heavy stress among other tests.

While applications that aren't certified for Datacenter can run on the operating system, the certification represents a strong indication to customers that a vendor is committed to supporting the year-old Datacenter platform.

Some major vendors, notably Oracle Corp., have chosen to support Datacenter Server with their software but to abstain from the Microsoft certification program.

By certifying its OneWorld ERP software suite, J.D. Edwards joins several vendors whose business applications are now certified for Datacenter Server. They include SAP with its flagship SAP R/3 ERP software, IBM Corp.'s DB2 database, Microsoft's Exchange 2000 e-mail server and SQL Server 2000 database software, and Onyx Software's Onyx Employee Portal/Enterprise Application Server.

FalconStor, with its IPStor 2.0 storage networking software, joins a number of tools vendors to certify their software, including BMC Software, CommVault Systems Inc., NetIQ Corp., NSI Software, Tivoli Systems Inc. and Veritas Software Corp.

Veritest, an independent testing agency that conducts testing and certification programs for several platform vendors, handles application certification for Microsoft.
