CRM Application Clears Datacenter Certification Hurdle

After a slow start, vendors are beginning to get their applications certified on the Windows 2000 Datacenter Server platform.

Veritest this week posted documentation showing that Onyx Software had earned the Windows 2000 Datacenter Server certified application logo for the Onyx Employee Portal.

The logo indicates that an application meets stringent requirements from Microsoft. While the Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server tests are difficult, the Datacenter Server test poses additional hurdles. Applications must install and run on 32-processor systems, fail over correctly in four-node clusters, support Job Objects and run in high memory. The vendor must also document 24X7 support.

Veritest, an independent lab company, conducts the tests for Microsoft.

Until last week, Microsoft was the only company to certify applications: SQL Server 2000 and Exchange 2000 Server are certified. Four tools vendors have gained Datacenter certification for utilities and system and network management software.

Last week, however, IBM Corp. became the first third-party vendor to get an application certified. IBM earned Datacenter Server certification for four versions of its DB2 Universal Database version 7.2.

This week, Onyx followed by earning Datacenter certification for its employee portal. Onyx is a seven-year-old, Bellevue, Wash.-based CRM company. The Onyx Employee Portal is intended to provide front-office workers with relevant business data in their dealings with customers. The customizable software is built on Microsoft's DNA Architecture.
