Oracle Buys Virtual Iron
First
Oracle bought Sun (not sure if this deal is 100-percent final yet). That gained Oracle an array of hypervisors and virtual tools.
Now Oracle is buying Virtual Iron, a company with its own Xen-based hypervisor. My suspicion is Oracle doesn't care much about the hypervisors; that's all gone to VMware and Microsoft already. They want the management tools -- that's where the big bucks are.
As for the hypervisors, rather than compete with the big boys, it can set up hardware bundles with databases, ERP and virtualization.
