Paul Kearney is a consultant with KCP Computing Solutions, currently assigned to work with EDS on the U.S. State Department enterprise network management operation. He’s helping to roll over 475 domains at U.S. embassies worldwide running Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 and Active Directory, in an effort to centralize management services.
The current migration work masks a past that wasn’t wholly unrelated to IT: Paul served in the U.S. Army as a vehicle mechanic. “We did a lot of diagnosing and troubleshooting, which basically translates over to the IT field,” he explained. “Both fields require you to be very analytical.”
At the end of his stint in the Army, he made the career switch to IT because he “wanted to do something I liked doing,” he says, “versus what I had to do for 20 years.”
