Trump Revokes Biden AI Safety Order
On his first day of his administration, President Trump revoked a 2023 Biden executive order that aimed at establishing guidelines for AI safety for the tech industry.
The original order, which was issued in October 2023, sought to create best practices for AI safety, security and privacy for consumers. It also focused on fostering a fair and competitive AI ecosystem, and sought to limit the use of AI algorithms by federal contractors to engage in discrimination, and aimed to create AI use cases for federal workers.
Trump's revocation of the order is in line with the 2024 Republican platform, which stated: "We will repeal Joe Biden's dangerous Executive Order that hinders AI Innovation, and imposes Radical Leftwing ideas on the development of this technology. In its place, Republicans support AI Development rooted in Free Speech and Human Flourishing."
The AI safety rescission was one of 80 Biden-era orders revoked by President Trump on Monday.
