Migration Support for Hyper-V VMs Added to AWS

AWS has added tools to migrate Hyper-V virtual machines to its cloud.

In an update announced late last month, AWS is now letting users "migrate virtual machines running in on-premises virtualization stacks from both Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware ESX/ESXi environments."

AWS launched its Server Migration Service just over a year ago as a way to let organizations migrate their virtual infrastructures to its Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) with minimal configurations or service disruptions.

Users simply link their virtual environments to the Server Migration Service the using downloadable connectors. From there, users can pick which servers to replicate, schedule replication frequency and monitor current migration jobs.

Because the migrations are done piecemeal, with the bulk of the process being automated, the Server Migration Service can also help organizations cut down on the cost of migration, according to AWS.

The service is also free to use; customers are charged only for the amount of storage their migrations take up.

More information on the Server Migration Service is available here.
