Microsoft Cites 'Serious Issue' with Deployment Kit for Windows 10
Microsoft today issued a warning about an updated version of its Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK) for Windows 10.
The kit is Microsoft's collection of tools for deploying Windows 10 clients, and it's typically used with System Center Configuration Manager to that end. However, a recent update that Microsoft made to Windows ADK for Windows 10, as uploaded to the Microsoft Hardware Dev Center, has been causing problems.
Users of Windows ADK for Windows 10 version 1511 will get failed restarts when initializing hardware devices in the preboot environment. Instead of a reboot, they get error code "0x80220014," according to Microsoft's announcement.
Affected products include the System Center 2012 Configuration Manager products, as well the preview version of the next System Center Configuration Manager. The key workaround is to avoid using the newly updated versions of the kit for those products, which are labeled "version 1511."
Here's Microsoft' advice, per the announcement:
You should continue to use the original release of the Windows 10 ADK, which is supported for OS deployments including Windows 10, version 1511. This older version of the Windows 10 ADK can still be downloaded directly from the Microsoft Download Center.
This link will get that older version of the Windows 10 ADK.
The current release of Windows 10 also is labeled version "1511." Microsoft's has a new version scheme for its products. It consists of two digits representing the year (2015) plus two digits for the month (November).
