Microsoft Issues Update to Office for Mac 2011
Microsoft yesterday issued a new update for Office for Mac 2011 after some users had problems with their Service Pack 2 installations.
The 14.2.1 update is dated April 25 and is described in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article. It addresses database issues that some users experienced after applying Service Pack 2 of Office for Mac 2011.
Microsoft had released SP2 on April 12. However, it suspended the delivery of it via Auto Update on April 19 "while we investigated issues that affected a small percentage of users," Microsoft explained in a blog post.
The new 14.2.1 update, in addition to addressing Office database issues, will copy AppleScripts to their proper locations; it also copies autocorrect lists to the right places. The update even lets users install SP2 via a command line, rather than through a shell.
Microsoft's blog recommends applying this update if SP2 hasn't been applied. It also suggests that applying the upgrade is still a good idea even if SP2 has been installed because it will bring Office for Mac 2011 up to the latest version.
Microsoft had earlier issued a workaround for the database upgrade issue, but now the new build appears designed to fix those problems.
Microsoft also released a Lync for Mac 2011 update yesterday. This 14.0.2 update fixes problems with Juniper and Cisco virtual private network clients, according to Microsoft's Knowledge Base article description. It also addresses an Active Directory lockout problem associated with the Kerberos protocol and fixes some crash issues.
