Survey: Win2K is Most Well-Known Microsoft Product
Windows 2000 is now the Microsoft product on which MCPs have the greatest amount of knowledge, perhaps reflecting Win2K’s growing pervasiveness in the market.
According to
MCP Magazine’s
annual salary survey, 81.1 percent of MCPs have expertise in Win2K,
vs. 76.5 percent who are experts in NT, Win2K’s forerunner. Microsoft
has claimed for some time that Win2K was making strong inroads into the
enterprise but, until recently, that claim wasn’t bolstered by sales figures.
Those looking to gain an advantage in the employment marketplace may
want to look at some of the less well-known products, like Commerce Server,
which just 2.2 percent of respondents felt competent with, or ISA Server-a
software firewall/ caching server growing in popularity-at 8.6 percent.
Other Microsoft products in which few have proficiency include Application
Center 2000, 1.6 percent; Content Management Server, 1.6 percent; Mobile
Information Server, 0.7 percent; SharePoint Portal Server, 3.2 percent;
Site Server, 4.5 percent; and SMS Server, 9.2 percent.
The well-known products include IIS, 53.5 percent; Exchange, 38.9 percent;
SQL, 42.3 percent; and Proxy, 19.9 percent.
The salary survey was published in August.
