Microsoft Server OS Gets New Name

According to ENTmag.com, Microsoft has officially named the forthcoming update to its server operating systems family of software "Windows 2002." While in development, the servers have been code-named "Whistler," after the Whistler Blackcomb mountains near Vancouver, Canada. ("Blackcomb" is the code name for the OS upgrade following Windows 2000; Blackcomb has been on a parallel development track with Windows 2002.)

ENTmag.com reports that the company made the official announcement during a Gartner Group conference being held in Los Angeles. News on the new name hasn't quelled rumors of a slipping ship date for the software, which some pundits guess will be no earlier than first quarter 2002.
