MegaRam-5000 First Native Fibre Channel Solid State Disk

Imperial Technology Inc. introduced the MegaRam-5000, the first solid state disk to utilize a native Fibre Channel architecture.

The architecture eliminates the need for a SCSI to Fibre bridge and allows the MegaRam-5000 to run at twice the speed of other solid state disk systems. The system also offers an Ultra-2 SCSI interface and includes features necessary for a SAN, including large storage capacity, high availability, and a wide internal bandwidth.

The MegaRam-5000 supports Fibre Channel-Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) configurations, SAN hub, and switched fabric configurations. The device is Solaris ready and compatible with many third-party switches. The multiple interface also allows the device to support up to 16 individual host computers simultaneously, or provide a single host computer with extremely high data transmission rates through multiple data paths.

The MegaRam-5000 features a 230 MB/second internal bus and Fibre ports of 100 MB/second and Ultra-2 SCSI ports at 80 MB/second.
