Windows 2000 Inches Closer to Release

At WinHEC '99, Brian Valentine, Windows NT Development Group program manager, discusses Windows 2000's impending release later this year.

In a recent talk given at WinHEC ’99, Brian Valentine, charged with management of the Windows NT Development Group for Microsoft, said the product is currently feature-complete. Expected to be in wide beta cycle three by the time you read this, Windows 2000 is supposed do away with the current service pack model, in which Microsoft introduces product fixes along with new features. According to Valentine, “We're going to get onto a regular service pack program that allows you to just have bug fixes installed on your machine, and you don't have to pick up new features if you don't want those new features.”
