Data General Creates NT, MetaFrame Testing Lab

Data General Corp. (www.dg.com) today announced the creation of a laboratory at its headquarters in Westboro, Massachusetts for testing computing environments based on Microsoft Windows NT Server version 4.0 operating system Terminal Server Edition and Citrix Systems Inc. MetaFrame server-based computing software.

"We're seeing a tremendous amount of customer interest in this computing architecture, including opportunities involving multi-site, even worldwide, implementations. Our lab will provide vital information, such as configuration guidelines, for deploying large-scale thin-client solutions," says David Flawn, vice president of NT Marketing at Data General. "Over the next several months, we will be doing extensive engineering work characterizing the performance of applications delivered using this architecture."

Data General will publish white papers on server-based issues and networking options including LAN, WAN, and dial-up connections. Data General also plans to work with its software business partners to test specific applications, and issue guidelines on how to best deploy them in a Terminal Server environment. --Brian Ploskina, Assistant Editor
