(LAS VEGAS) Comdex was once the biggest of the big, the monster of all U.S.-based computer trade shows. Only Cebit in Germany, which was a much broader based show, could even touch it.

Today, Comdex is a mere shadow of its former self. In the mid-90s, exhibits were strewn all over Vegas, from the Sands to the Hilton – and everywhere were hospitality suites packed with executives, coffee, and expensive cheese platters. And if you wanted a splashy product launch, why Comdex was the only way to go.

I flew over to comdex from the UK, what a dissapointment! Nothing like what it was about 5 years ago. I just could not believe the people who were willing to stand in line for a silly LED badge! Seemed to be more end users that trade present.

This was my first Comdex. I went for the exbits. I was sorely disappointed. Where was Adobe, Symantec, and other major software companies? I'm going to look at the exhibtor list real close before going next year.
