Every 14 seconds, somewhere around the globe, a business falls victim to a ransomware attack. What is ransomware, and why does it increasingly keep IT professionals awake at night?
Simply put, a bad actor plants a virus onto a device – often via phishing – which either encrypts, obfuscates or otherwise denies access to files, or locks the user out of their system entirely. The criminal then demands payment for returning access to the data or system. In an attack on an enterprise, the malware can also move laterally from system to system until you lose access to critical data and services across your entire organization.
