Email Security and AI: Essential Strategies for a Changing Threat Landscape

Date: Wednesday, August 9th at 11am PT / 2pm ET

The cybersecurity threat landscape continues to shift and evolve, but email is still the preferred attack vector for even the most sophisticated cybercriminals. Microsoft, for example recently disclosed that a China-based threat actor accessed customer email accounts using forged authentication tokens. Last year Google reported that an espionage threat group had developed a new tool being used to successfully attack Gmail user accounts. Perhaps most disturbing, both attackers adopted artificial intelligence (AI) to create malicious software and draft convincing phishing emails.

Email attackers today routinely bypass standard security controls, such as Microsoft 365's secure email gateways and Google Workspace security. And now they're adopting AI-related technologies that are sweeping Silicon Valley to develop and deploy highly sophisticated social engineering and zero-day attacks.

In this Tech Talk, phishing defense advisor Miles Walker talks with veteran technology journalist John K. Waters about the changes in the cybersecurity landscape, the new challenges companies are facing, and how they can protect their most vulnerable asset.

During this conversation, you'll learn about:

  • The current state of the cybersecurity landscape
  • The most successful phishing tactics, and why they still work
  • How cybercriminals are adapting their old email-based techniques with new tech
  • The impact of ChatGPT and other AI technologies on cybercrime
  • How enterprises are using AI combined with user security training to thwart cybercriminals

Email threats are on the rise. By one estimate, 56% of emails sent in 2022 were spam, phishing, and attached to malware. That's up from 12.5 over 2021, according to OpenText Cybersecurity. This is not a tech talk you can afford to miss.
