In its directive Digital Identity Guidelines SP 800-63, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) issued several critical guidelines to help ensure password strength and security. In general terms, the NIST advisory wants organizations to move the burden of proof to the verifying party whenever possible. It also advises against enforcing special characters (like numbers or exclamation points), against password hints (like, “What’s the name of your first pet?”), and against random or somewhat random password expiration requirements. While these guidelines may still hold some validity, in this rapidly evolving security landscape, it’s critical to apply stronger password policy enforcement.

This editorial webcast, presented by Redmond magazine, will explore the viability of the NIST password framework, and provide some updated techniques and tactics for ensuring a rock-solid password policy.

During this webcast, you will learn:

  •  Advanced password enforcement policies
  •  Which NIST password guidelines are still effective
  • Technologies and tactics to help ensure solid password protection
