2017 is looking like the most dangerous year to date for cyber-attacks and digital extortion. In fact, the Financial Times reports that malicious attacks have surpassed human error as the leading cause of data loss.
This increase in malicious data loss is associated with the evolution of ransomware – a category of malware which takes sensitive information hostage until an extortion fee is paid. Attacks against pillars of industry, multinational entities, healthcare providers and government agencies capture the headlines.
