Microsoft Updates Config Manager and Endpoint Protection 2012 SP1 Binaries

Microsoft announced on Friday of last week that it made some corrections to the Service Pack 1 binaries of System Center Configuration Manager 2012 and System Center Endpoint Protection 2012.

Updated binaries were posted on January 25 to TechNet and MSDN sites, as well as the Microsoft Download Center, according to a Microsoft blog post. The updated files include a hotfix that fixes an error associated with the MicrosoftPolicyPlatformSetup.msi file in Configuration Manager, as well as a fix for a file corruption problem associated with Endpoint Protection.

The blog post describes these fixes as correcting "some minor issues." However, it concludes that "this means if you downloaded the binaries prior to today (1/25) - you will likely need to re-download them."

The brief announcement by Microsoft may affect a fair number of users. While System Center 2012 SP1 hit general availability on January 15, Microsoft's volume license subscribers, as well as its TechNet and MSDN members, have had access to the bits for a couple of weeks before that date.

There have been a number of notices from Microsoft about System Center 2012 SP1 installation issues since the new service pack hit general availability. For instance, Microsoft sent an early warning on January 16 about an Operations Manager install snag associated with a SQL script.

These System Center 2012 SP1 notices seem to appear in sporadic places across Microsoft's TechNet blogs. The System Center Configuration Manager blog is one place for breaking news, and a partial list of Knowledge Base articles associated with Configuration Manager can be found here. Other Knowledge Base articles have been posted regarding Data Protection Manager and Virtual Machine Manager.

Microsoft also issued Update Rollup 1 for System Center 2012 SP1 on January 24 that appears to address many of these issues.

In addition, Microsoft's TechNet "support and troubleshooting " page here offers a centralized portal for finding System Center 2012 technical information.
