Rackspace Gets Into Virtualization
San Antonio, Texas-based IT hosting vendor Rackspace announced this week it's
moving into virtualization with a new VMware-based platform.
The new Rackspace Virtualization Hosting platform will offer dedicated (versus shared) hardware with "the option of hybrid virtual and physical hosted environments," according to the company.
"Our customers have asked for Virtualized Dedicated Servers because they see the service as part of their future IT needs," Rackspace said of the new service. "Leveraging VMware, we have created a solution, with no shared components, that's flexible, quickly deployable, easy to manage, scalable and highly available."
"Virtualization is still an evolving technology, and we believe this is just the beginning for Rackspace," John Engates, chief technology officer for Rackspace, said in a prepared statement. "We expect future releases of Rackspace Virtualization Hosting to include enhanced disaster recovery, storage and scaling capabilities."
