DataDirect XQuery 3.0 Released

DataDirect Technologies has released version 3.0 of its XQuery product, an XQuery processor that streamlines and makes more efficient use of multiple data types, including XML, SOAP and EDI messages, and legacy data.

Bedford, Mass.-based DataDirect claims significant performance gains over, for example, using custom Java code on a SQL database. The main upgrade in the latest iteration of XQuery is its ability to save time by expediting service oriented architecture (SOA) and Web services integration.

DataDirect cited a case study to demonstrate XQuery's ability to improve performance. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hired a computer consulting firm on a project, which implemented XQuery. An engineer with the firm was impressed with XQuery's abilities. "With DataDirect XQuery we were able to reduce code complexity, simplify code maintenance and improve performance and scalability," the engineer said in a press release. "What once took 50 Java classes and 150 SQL statements was reduced to just a single Java class and seven XQueries using the DataDirect XQuery product. Moreover, a large extraction from 500MB of XML data intended for SAS analysis took significantly less time compared to using different methods."

XQuery 3.0 is available immediately. A workstation license is $455, and a server license, for a server with up to four processors, is $1,365. More information is available on the DataDirect website.
