Laplink's PCmover To Aid Vista Migration
Data portability stalwart Laplink says it will ship its PCmover for Windows
Vista package in time for commercial availability of Vista later this month.
The tool is designed to enable users to easily migrate their files, applications
and settings from existing PCs to Vista machines as soon as the sales orgy begins.
Bellevue, Wash.-based Laplink has been involved in providing portability products
for laptops for more than 20 years -- originally under the Traveling Software
brand and later as Laplink, which is also the name of the company's flagship
product.
PCmover lets users perform migration tasks using several options: through genuine
Laplink USB Cables, via any local network (including wireless) or by using removable
media such as CD-R, DVD-R or external hard drives.
The package will be available through retail outlets by Jan. 30, Microsoft's
ship date for public availability of Vista. Additionally, the Vista-capable
version of PCmover will be available via Laplink's
site at as of Jan. 18, the company said in a statement. PCmover starts at
$49.95.
