Microsoft Releases Visual Studio Service Pack Updates

Microsoft has released a service pack update for its flagship Visual Studio 2005 IDE that it says delivers "improvements in responsiveness, stability and performance for Visual Studio 2005."

Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 (SP1) fixes bugs and crashes that were discovered through internal testing and customer feedback, says Jay Roxe, Microsoft group product manager for Visual Studio. The fixes address everything from miscolored text in the IDE to outright crashes.

Visual Studio SP1, which was released Thusday at noon EST, also applies more than 70 improvements for common development scenarios. Among them: Added support for the Intel Core Duo processor and better code generation and profiling. Tweaks for Team Foundation Server are also included. Microsoft says the patch improves performance and scalability, collaboration functionality, and integration with Excel 2007 and Project 2007.

Another patch is on its way: Visual Studio 2005 SP1 Update for Windows Vista Beta will roll out alongside the consumer version of Windows Vista, in Q1 of 2007. The service pack addresses specific known issues with Visual Studio 2005 running on the new operating system.
