From the business wires this week: hosting solutions and other tools for SQL Server 2005. announced that it is offering Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005 hosting for free until Jan. 1, 2006. The Express and Standard plans include 1GB disk space, 50GB monthly data transfer, 100 e-mail boxes for the primary domain with 500MB of total space and three FTP accounts. Additional features include domain add-on options, access to Urchin statistics, and 24x7x365 customer support. also announced it is offering Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005 hosting services. Its .NET Builder plans provide between 1GB and 2GB of hard disk storage, 20GB and 30GB of monthly data transfer 500 e-mail accounts. Both plans feature a free domain name and 24x7x365 customer support.

Edgewood Solutions released a report, “SQL Server 2005 Adoption Issues: Evaluating Risks and Readiness,” surveying the risks and benefits of upgrading to Microsoft’s just-released SQL Server 2005. For the report, a random survey of 462 U.S. database administrators, developers, business intelligence managers, IT managers and knowledge workers was conducted from Aug. 15 to Sept. 15. The top five perceived benefits sited in the report are: improved performance, .NET integration, T-SQL enhancements, SQL Server Integration Services and BI/reporting services. Priced at $49.

Real Enterprise Solutions (RES) announced that its RES PowerFuse and RES Wisdom solutions for Windows support Microsoft SQL Server 2005. PowerFuse is a management solution for Windows that enables admins to lockdown desktops, eliminate scripting, optimize performance, centralize licensing, and generate reports on enterprise desktops on demand. With Wisdom, Windows admins can centrally install applications/updates, apply hotfixes, centrally run Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer to apply security patches and automate many other routine tasks.

ERP-Link Corp. released version 2.0 of iNet Integrator for SAP with support for Microsoft SQL Server 2005. With iNet Integrator organizations can support extending their SAP R/3 system with capabilities such as using SharePoint Portal Server as a full-function portal; or enabling SQL Server-driven BI using SAP R/3 and BW Info objects; or using the Information Bridge Framework to support Knowledge worker collaboration and workflows with SAP & non-SAP information.

Conceptworld Corporation released a program that provides quick access to recently accessed documents, files, applications and Web sites. RecentX 1.1 keeps them accessible in an easy-to-use and easy-to-find format, and runs on Windows 2000/XP/2003 Server. Priced at $19.95 per license.
