Citrix Unveils Remote App Access for SMBs
Citrix Systems announced it is shipping Citrix Access Essentials, a variant of its popular remote access products that run on top of Microsoft’s Windows Terminal Server designed for small and medium-sized businesses.
The product is to debut at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference set to begin Friday in Minneapolis, Minn.
Access Essentials provides on-premises software that is designed, packaged and priced for customers with up to 75 Windows users, according to the Fort Lauderdale, Fla. company. Like Citrix’s other products, the new software provides secure remote access for users as well as centralized management for system administrators. With it, users are able to run desktop applications remotely without having to have them installed and resident on their computers.
Access essentials aims to make life easier for administrators at SMBs who are having to deal with increasing numbers of mobile workers that need to connect to the company network and run applications. The package provides secure, encrypted access based on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for running line-of-business applications, and accessing files and internal Web sites, giving administrators control over who gets access to what, when, from multiple, often remote, locations.
Citrix Access Essentials is available through authorized Citrix Solution Advisors in five-user packs at a cost of “less than $250 per seat,” including Windows Terminal Server client access licenses, according to the company.
