New MOM Management Pack for Password Change Notification

Microsoft this month introduced a new Microsoft Operations Manager Management Pack for the Microsoft Password Change Notification Service.
The Microsoft Password Change Notification Service MOM Management Pack works with MOM 2000 or MOM 2005. It collects events placed into the event log by the service and highlights key events to indicate possible service outages, configuration problems and degraded performance.
MOM management packs plug into the MOM infrastructure to provide management capabilities and packaged knowledge for specific servers and services. While the MOM management pack for the Password Change Notification Service is the first of the new year, more than 130 management packs have been released over the last several years by Microsoft, NetIQ and dozens of other companies. Most companies, including Microsoft, develop the management packs to help manage their own software in a Windows environment.
Management packs are Microsoft's preferred management method for all Windows Server System products under Microsoft's new Windows Server System Common Engineering Criteria. That means that when new versions of products like SQL Server, Exchange Server, BizTalk Server and Commerce Server are released to manufacturing, Microsoft requires itself to simultaneously ship a management pack for MOM.
The new Password Change Notification management pack, however, is one of many Microsoft has created for optional services within Windows. In addition to password change notification, Microsoft has created MOM packs for services including RRAS, clustering, DNS, Active Directory, File Replication Services, SharePoint Services, Windows Rights Management Services, WINS, Terminal Services and Network Load Balancing.
