Security+ Added as MCSA/MCSE Exam Options
Microsoft confirms that CompTIA's Security+ exam has been added to the MCSA and MCSE on Windows 2000 requirements list as an exam option.
David Lowe, product manager for security with Microsoft's Training and
Certification group, confirmed in a phone conversation that CompTIA's
Security+ exam can now be used to satisfy the elective portion of the
MCSA and MCSE on Windows 2000 tracks. MCPmag.com earlier reported that
Microsoft had yet to confirm Security+ as an elective option (see "
Certifying
Your Security Expertise," in News).
Security+ can be used toward the single elective requirement for the
MCSA. With the addition of CompTIA's Security+ to that track, the exam
joins the A+, Network+ and Server+ exams as options under the MCSA title.
Unlike the other CompTIA exams, Security+ doesn't have to be taken in
combination.
Under the MCSE on Windows 2000, Security+ counts as only one elective
toward the track—candidates must pass two electives to complete
the track.
"We're very pleased," Kris Madura, Security+ Program Manager
for CompTIA commented. "What Security + will do for these distinctions
is allow candidates to leave the program...with additional, broad-based
knowledge of vendor-neutral security issues on a global basis." Madura
added that Security+ would be a part of the MCSA and MCSE on Windows 2003
track upon those tracks' availability.
