HP Ships ProLiant ML350 G3

HP on Wednesday began shipping a new two-way ProLiant server that shows how far the Windows/Intel/industry-standard hardware bloc has come.

The new ProLiant ML350 G3 posted benchmark results on the Transaction Processing Performance Council's OLTP measure, the TPC-C, of 39,0006.54 tpmC. That two-way performance is nearly equivalent to the capability of eight-way servers running Windows NT in the early days of Intel's Profusion chipset in 1999.

The HP system used Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition, SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition and 2.8-GHz Intel Xeon processors. Previously, the HP ProLiant ML350 G3 shipped with 2.4-GHz Xeons.

The server comes in a tower or 5U-high rack model. It can be configured with up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 880 GB of internal storage.
