Winternals Updates Administrator's Pack

Winternals Software released an updated version of its Administrator's Pak on Wednesday that includes new utilities and adds Windows XP support.

Administrator's Pak 3.0 is the latest version of a software suite for system diagnostics, repair and recovery in the event of unbootable computers, corrupted disks, lost passwords, inaccessible data and virus damage.

Components of the pack include:

  • ERD Commander for emergency system repair.
  • A Remote Recovery utility for repairing unbootable systems.
  • NTFSDOS Professional for accessing NTFS volumes as if they were standard MS-DOS drives.
  • Disk Commander for recovering lost data and replacing damaged partitions.
  • Monitoring Tools for tracking file system and registry activity across the network.

The software package now supports Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. ERD Commander and Remote Recover underwent substantial upgrades for this version of the Administrator's Pak. NTFSDOS Professional is new to the bundle.

The new ERD Commander 2002 brings a Windows look-and-feel to the system troubleshooting and repair interface, while the new Remote Recovery utility adds the ability to repair unbootable systems remotely via PXE-download images. Both tools now include a wizards-based feature called Locksmith for resetting lost or locked-out administrator passwords.

Winternals charges $699 for the Administrator's Pak. It costs $349 to upgrade from the previous version.
