IBM Exec to Head Microsoft Services

Mike Sinneck, a senior executive with IBM Global Services, will take over the reins of Microsoft's worldwide services organization from Bob McDowell.

Microsoft announced on Tuesday that they had wooed the 32-year IBM veteran to Redmond. Sinneck leaves a position as vice president for business operations of IBM Global Services Americas. He also had served as a global liaison to Microsoft during his IBM career.

Sinneck represents IBM's second big-name defection to Microsoft in the last year. Cliff Reeves joined Microsoft in March, two months after retiring from IBM-Lotus at age 51 to take charge of the Windows .NET Server Product Management Group.

Sinneck takes over a worldwide services organization organized last April by McDowell, who will remain a vice president but will assume a more customer-focused role.

Sinneck is tasked with continuing the work McDowell started of integrating Microsoft Consulting Services and Product Support Services.
